Chuck Pyle headed the Illustration Department at Academy of Art for eighteen years and has had a long career
as an Illustrator and oil painter. Keith Wicks taught at the Academy for over 25 years, and at numerous workshops
Both Chuck and Keith taught multiple Plein Air summer semesters in Italy.
We are joining forces to share our combined 60 years teaching and painting
in this two day workshop in Sonoma Country; painters will receive instruction from both of us each day.
Keith and Chuck will each do demos
We will lay out how to prep before you paint,
what materials are best suited for Plein air painting,
how to set up your palette,
how to harmonize your colors,
and how to make a painting that is more than just a view.
Supply lists will be provided beforehand.
DAY ONE
Meet at 9am at the bend in the river turning basin in downtown Petaluma.
Chuck will talk about how to see composition and translate that to your painting.
We will set up around the river edge with boats, the bridge, and buildings.
We will work on seeing the shapes and putting them together into a beautiful painting.
DAY TWO
Meet at 9am at Tolay Regional Park.
Here we have old barns and buildings, farming equipment, goats, pastures,
lots of material to choose to paint.
Keith will do a demo from 9:15- 10:30
and then all paint.
This workshop is for all levels of Plein Air painters.
We will be teaching in oils. Supply lists
will be sent upon registration.
